But you're warm... The floor's cold. [ And he is a sleepy sleepy draggin okay. He's less worried about the nest itself and more with the heat Vanitas' body offers, so when he's pushed off the edge of the nest onto the ground he gives a tired bark and tries to crawl back up. ]

That's not my problem.

[As soon as the other tries to climb onto his nest, Vanitas makes another low growl and raises his spines, lips drawing back to show his teeth again.]

..... [ Ven chuffs unhappily but shrinks back down, sitting back onto his haunches and looking around for anything that might also serve to be comfortable. Mostly it's just stuff he shouldn't be touching anyway, so with a defeated little noise he pulls his paws away from the edge of the nest and just wanders around the edge of it towards Vanitas' tail end, away from his fangs and all that. Mostly to see if the other will tolerate him taking up residence there, on the floor next to him. ]

[Well, he doesn't have the same aggression. Vanitas just eyes the smaller dragon as he retreats, snorting softly as he curls up beside him. He should really chase him off, but again he's too tired to properly assert his dominance over the area and the gold isn't much of a threat.

So after a small stare-off, he lowers his head again and curls in on himself, closing his eyes in an attempt to catch more sleep.]

[ Which is basically the okay to STAY FOREVER as far as Ven's concerned. He coos just once, before curling up into a happy little bundle and tucking his head and limbs under himself to keep warm. And this time he won't snore at all c: ]

[Good, because he really needs the uninterrupted rest. After a good three or four hours after drifting off, Vanitas finally blinks awake and yawns, lifting to stretch himself. It's already dark outside the cave, but he hardly cares as he flexes his limbs and glances back to see if the smaller dragon's still asleep or not.]

[ Nope! In fact Ven actually isn't there at all, absent from the spot he'd chosen as his napping area. Vanitas is nice and alone in the cave fancy that :>c ]

[Huh..... maybe he's actually taken off??

The larger male cocks his head, sniffing at the air before he slowly moves towards the cave's entrance. His wounds are closed by now--still slightly painful, but no longer bleeding as he stalks to the waterfall and adjacent ledge]

[ Are you kidding, when are you ever that lucky Vanitas.

The moment he steps outside it'll be obvious where Ven's gone. He isn't exactly being subtle about the way he's splashing and floundering about in the water below, pouncing and apparently chasing something beneath the water's surface.

Not very well mind you, because he keeps getting turned around every time one of the gd fish catches his attention. They won't hold still long enough for him to snap at one )8 ]

[...He should have known.

The larger male cranes his head out, catching sight of the younger as he splashes and cavorts along the river bed. The sun's setting, casting the adjacent landscape in shadow and faint light, which means that the fish are definitely awake and out for their nightly hunting.

He feels his stomach growl faintly, reminded that he hasn't eaten anything for a day as he silently moves out from behind the waterfall and skips down the ledge to the water's surface.]

Caught anything, yet? [It also can't hurt to tease the other a bit, since he seems to be having such a difficult time catching anything.]

Oh...! You're awake! [ Ven stops in the middle of a splash and perks both earstalks up with a chirp, tail swishing in the water behind him. ]

I haven't got anything yet...they're slippery.

You aren't doing it right.

[Stepping off the ledge, he hops closer to the river bank and gives another stretch.]

You've gotta lay a trap for them.

A trap?

[ Ven shakes himself out (even if he's still in the water) and waddles back towards the water's edge to meet the other. ] What sort of trap?

Fish are smarter than you think.

[He gazes at the other meaningly, before he walks off into the bushes and starts digging at the rocks and ground beneath.]

Chasing after them might catch you one or two, in a few hours. But if you have something they like to eat...

[He stops once he gets a few inches down, and pulls out what look like several strands from the earth. In actuality, they're nightcrawler worms, just now becoming active now that the sun's setting.]

They'll come right to your paw.

...Those look gross. Are you sure they'll work? [ He doesn't even want to try sniffing them. They're too wriggly and yuck. Ven moves backward to give the other room. ]

More than sure.

[Once he has a few of them, he holds them between his digits and shuffles back to the river. Standing in the shallows, he he extends his arm and lets the worms languish in the current, waiting for the first fish that come up to investigate.

It takes a good ten or fifteen minutes, but soon enough he has a couple trout nipping at his digits. He lets them get comfortable, holding the worms firmly enough that they go from mere nips and bites to actual attempts at swallowing them...

Before his neck winds back, and his head snaps forward, snatching a larger one from the river between his jaws with one smooth movement.]

Whoa...!

[ Colour goldie impressed. That was actually pretty darn cool, and Ven can't help the way he wiggles in excitement. ] That was amazing...!

[He bites the fish hard to incapacitate it, before he turns his head and spits it towards the shore. To him, it's hardly a mouthfull... though he's sure that Ven will probably make a meal out of it.]

See?

[ Oh wow--that's for him? You're really never getting rid of him Vanitas holy moley. Ven's hurrying over to where it's been tossed to pounce on it with both front paws, quick to tug it in close and huddle over it possessively.

He totally killed this himself ]

Can I have it?? [ ...Which has asks after all of that, of course. ]

[Glancing back, he snorts slightly at the childishness of it, and shrugs his wings.]

Knock yourself out.

[Turning back to the river, he wades further in and focuses on catching larger prey--like a salmon or something more substantial.]

[ Hey man, simple pleasures. Ven's more than happy to dig into his fish and gnaw off several mouthfuls as he watches Vanitas at work. It's going to get gobbled up pretty fast because he hasn't eaten since before running into Vanitas initially, and once it's gone he's back on the edge of the water, eyes keen for anything else that might wind up getting tossed his way. ]

[Five minutes later, Vanitas manages to catch another trout, which he goes ahead and eats himself. The salmon might not be in the area now, but there's still enough to go around.

And his next catch proves to be just as good. A monster bass comes to investigate the remaining worms, and as soon as it's attempting to pick them off, Vanitas strikes again.

The fish is an easy twenty pounds, and with it firmly clasped in his jaws, he turns and moves back to shore to enjoy it.]

... [ Wow that looks way better than the one small fish he had. Feel like sharing that monster?? Please? Ven's already licking his maw and whining because he's a grown-up dragon like that. ]

[The larger dragon settles on the shore, holding the fish between his front paws as he digs in. His eyes pin to the younger dragon, showing him his teeth with a warning growl if he gets too close.

He gets his fill first because he's the leader here. 8| But after he's eaten the tastiest parts, he'll throw the rest of the tail and collar over to the gold.]

[ HE'S HAPPY WITH THE SCRAPS BECAUSE HE'S A MAN. And just just because he's hungry and happy to have something else to eat. The fact that Vanitas is sharing with him at all is a big thing from what he can understand, so he actually waits patiently (albeit restlessly) until the leftovers are tossed his way and he can dig into them.

Which is good because he probably couldn't have eaten much more, given his size and everything. Ven'll wind up licking his maw happily and fussing over his paws. ]
