[This is stupid this is stupid this is stupid.
That's the mantra running through Euri's head as the western ocean comes into sight. This is stupid and dangerous and a plant isn't worth the trouble of getting this close to so much water, even if the tide is out.
... But damnit! If those rumours are true all she has to do is grab one or two plants. Then she can take them home and grow them herself and given how they're rare to the point of mythical she'll be rich.
Euri makes her way down the hill, swallowing thickly as the full ocean comes into view. It's a lot bigger than she imagined, and she tries to focus on the shallows directly in front of her. All she has to do is wade out to that little island - only a few miles - and then she'll be fine.
It takes her about an extra ten minutes to reach the edge of the water, and when she does she holds her breath for a few moments. But nothing happen, so she removes her shoes and stockings and ties the hem of her dress up high so it won't get wet. The feeling of warm water hitting her toes makes her squeak, but a few seconds later she's plowing into it and starting for the island.]

As she nears the island, though, the water gets just ever so much deeper. There's a few more boulders and sea rocks scattered around it's shore, too, which provide more potential danger if she's not careful.]
no subject
The girl eventually comes to a stop at the first boulder, taking care to look around cautiously before each step. As long as she doesn't disturb too much water she should be okay, right? She'll sneak in and out and no one - or nothing - will be the wiser.
... Fuck, who is she kidding? She's sweating bullets with each step, often stopping to glance fearfully at a suspicious shadow or movement in the water.]
no subject
At least there's only a few more meters to go before she reaches the island. The water starts getting shallower again, but unfortunately...
To her right is another large sea rock, that reaches up above her head out of the water. The side facing her is rough, and pocked with oysters, limpets and some bright green flora that's taken root in the crevices. On the side facing away from her, however, is the one facing the tide, and as such has been worn more smooth and flat. And it's there that something, or someone is lurking.
As she passes, the face of a young teen around her age blinks at her, and stares. From her vantage point, she should only be able to see his head, and body from the chest up, as the rest of him curves away around the other side of the rock.]
no subject
Then she sees she isn't alone.]
-!!
[Her reactions are less than flattering. First she screams, then as she moves to step back her heel slips on the sand. Then there's a loud splash as she hits the water and starts flailing like a terrified idiot.]
no subject
Hey! Take it easy... [And then he's coming forward, climbing (and yes, when he swings his lower body around, there's legs attached) down from his perch while still clinging a bit to the rock at his back.]
It's okay. [Though despite what he says, and despite his very human or Warlock appearance, he is... most definitely naked.]
no subject
It's when she finally notices his legs that she freezes up in confusion, mind having trouble processing what she's seeing. A merm - no, that isn't right - a Warlock? That's absolutely ridicu and he's naked, too.]
......... [Her face turns very, very red as her feet find some solid ground. It's just a rock, but it's enough for her to get her back on her feet.]
Wh - what's a human doing out here??
no subject
Her question gets a slight raise of his eyebrows.] I live here? Back on the shore. [And he gives it a little cock of his head back in the direction she came from.]
Better question is, what're you doing here?
no subject
None of your business, you stupid human!
[A quick glance around and she starts scooping up her shoes and stockings.]
I should curse you right now...!
no subject
But when she looks back up, it instantly snaps back into a dubious look. One that looks mildly offended.]
What, for interrupting my nap? [T'ch. With that, he hoists himself back up and seats himself back on his perch.]
Go ahead, see if I care.
no subject
... Not that she's completely without it, though. With her shoes and stockings retrieved she scowls darkly at him.
Then takes a deep breath and sings a few clear and beautiful but haunting lines. There's a powerful force behind them, and it almost feels as if the air is rippling as it hits the boy. He'll find his voluntary muscles frozen and Euri smirking triumphantly.]
You asked for it!
[Okay, so it's only a minor paralysis hex that'll last ten minutes max, but it's enough to make her giggle as she makes her way to the island's shore.]
no subject
[Oh, he definitely recognizes it for what it is, once she begins to cast it. After all, his magic is much older and more powerful than hers... but he lets her finish without interrupting, other than to flinch back a bit to make it seem real.
It also gives him a good idea of how powerful she is, once the spell begins to wear off. He does freeze up, because he's not completely immune to it, but once it starts to wear off, he just shakes free of it and turns his attention towards the island, narrowing his eyes now that he's alone.
A wide smirk spreads across his own face, as he waits for that white head of hers to make it further up the shore. Then, with a sudden movement he slides off his rock and into the water with a quiet splash, head and body disappearing beneath the surface.]

Euri heads further inland, going over the plant's appearance. Apparently it's an aquatic fern with indigo and purple flowers. Supposedly it only grows on this island, in a lagoon. The thought of more water makes her wary, but a lagoon isn't nearly as bad as the entire ocean.
It takes her about an hour to find the lagoon, and when she does she practically stumbles upon the area by accident. But she's pleased with herself, and heads down to the edge of the water to start searching.]
no subject
It takes him a few stops, too, to find the right destination, because he doesn't know exactly what she's after. But he has a good guess, and when he finds himself in that very same lagoon, he hides himself deep near it's bottom, resting against the sea grass that flourishes in the relatively still water.
The trees here are overgrown with dangling vine, and branches, too, which further shades it from the sun. So he has no fear of her catching a glimpse of pale skin or yellow eyes lurking beneath the water's surface.]
no subject
It's tough work, especially since she's trying to remain aware of her surroundings, but if she finds it the payoff will be worth it.]
no subject
And they're growing just beyond where the lagoon bottom drops off to chest-deep water.]

For a moment Euri actually thinks the water is much deeper, hesitating at the edge because she can't swim. But experimentally she snatches up a rock and throws it near the plants. It's just dark enough for her eyes to follow, and she sighs with relief when she sees it isn't deep enough to go above her head.
But it means her dress will get wet again, and she doesn't want to deal with that again. It would take at least another hour for it to dry....
Chewing on her lip, Euri makes her way to the shore. There's only that idiot human around, and there's no way he would find her, so... she proceeds to yank her dress off, laying it out on some rocks before turning and heading back to the plants.
There, now she only has to deal with wet underwear. That's a lot less uncomfortable, so with a deep breath she steps forward into the deeper water. It's a little cooler and makes her shiver, but the plants are practically within reach now and that's all that matters.]
no subject
For a second, he wonders if she isn't giving up, when she heads back to the water's edge. But it doesn't take more than a few minutes for her to strip, and return, the sound of her movements through the water like an elephant in a china closet to his sensitive ears. Who'd have thought that Witches were even more clumsy in the water than humans?
Then again, it made sense that they would be. He'd never seen a Witch or Warlock brave the ocean before, which made him more than a little interested in drawing this out. The chance that he'd get to play with one again was pretty slim, so...
He lets her move closer to the plants, close enough to reach out and brush her hands against them, before he finally moves. Swimming slowly and silently forward, with a few movements of his tail.]
no subject
Unfortunately all of this means her concentration is focused on the plants, and not her surroundings.]
no subject
Shouldn't be, until she'll feel something cool and smooth brush along her calf. He's kind enough not to do it against the reverse side of his scales, since having something akin to sandpaper would probably take off a good portion of her skin if he did.]
no subject
no subject
But he doesn't pursue her, just watches as she scrambles back for the shore. Like earlier stated, he wants to have plenty of time to play with her.
Now the question is, is she brave enough to risk a second chance? Just how important are these plants, to her?]
no subject
And once her breathing slows down she gathers up a handful of rocks, throwing them at that area. In case it was just a fish hopefully this will scare it off.]
no subject
She thinks she's so clever, but just wait~]
