[ HE'S STILL LEARNING OKAY. Hush. At least he knows better than to go barging into another dragon's nest willy-nilly and hangs back.

For like all of five minutes but the effort to be patient was there. He can't help being curious and anxious to see what Vanitas is doing, so he'll slowly start to creep forward until he can poke his head around the corner. ]

[And he's met with eyes glimmering at him from the cave's back.]

I thought I told you to get lost.

[ Hurk, whoops. Alright he definitely needs to work on his sneaking. Ven's earstalks flatten back again, passive. ]

...I'm not following you. [ yes he is. ]

You're really bad at lying.

[He rumbles, but he's also too exhausted to do much about it. The glimmering eyes blink several times, falling half-lidded before he gives a yawn.]

[ It's not a hiss or a bristle which is promising, so Ven allows himself to look just a but more hopeful and take a tiny half-step forward. Not into the cave or anything. ]

...I didn't wanna be alone.

[Vanitas continues to stare at him even when he feels his eyes starting to blink closed more and more often. For a long pause, he debates kicking the other out again, maybe even biting him to get his point across.

But after a moment of suspense, he finally sighs.]

Fine. Just don't touch anything.

...! I won't! I'll be good. [ He fails to keep the excitement out of his voice but contrary to the bubbly tone he doesn't bound in like a bundle of energy. He toddles in carefully, still expecting maybe a snap or two as he wanders a weaving path and sniffs the air. He's also making sure not to get too close to any of Vanitas' "things" before he ultimately settles down a couple yards or so away from the blackscale and curls his tail around his legs. ]

And don't make any noise.

[Because he'd really, really like to take a nap. Though he's wary of actually sleeping around another dragon, even one as young and naive as Ven, due to his survival instincts. Letting one's guard down was absolutely out of the question, so even when he lets his head settle against one paw he keeps his eyes opened and trained on the goldscale.]

[ Because he is just a bundle of evil waiting to happen. Just look at the heinous way he's settling his front paws on the ground and kneading at it. Diabolical.

a.k.a you're a paranoid butt Vanitas, even if your instincts are good. The only thing Ven's really doing is trying to make his spot more comfortable. It's not as if he's unused to a cool cave floor, but the moisture from the waterfall's new and it makes him a little restless, settling his wings over himself like a coat and tucking all his paws in under himself until he's able to settle his chin on the ground and sigh with a little huff at the end.

Cold :c and wet. And he winds up shuffling around again to try and wrap himself up a few different ways until he finds something passably comfortable...and just closes his eyes right away. His attention isn't even trained on Vanitas. ]

[Maybe some day you'll have a bed of fallen branches and pine needles to lay on. But for now, Vanitas shows no sympathy and doesn't offer up even a square inch of his nest.

The roar of the waterfall is soothing, though, and soon after Ven has curled up and closed his eyes, the bigger dragon finds himself drifting off. His sleep is light, and not very restful--the slightest disturbance has his eyes snapping open again to take survey of the cave's entrance.

But he does get a little rest in, however fitful and anxious it might be.]

[ Poor vanibutt :< dragon lyfe is hard.

Ven's out like a light in a matter of minutes, and within an hour he's a tight little ball with even his head tucked in under a wing. If it were warmer he'd have been sprawled out, because even having a grumpasaurus around is a comfort for him.

Also he might snuffle a bit, sorry if that wakes up grumpy butt :>; ]

[One can never be too vigilant. He got lucky in finding this territory unoccupied--the previous owner either left or was killed, though the lack of any belongings implicated the prior--and so far none of the other rivals had seemed to know. But that didn't mean one couldn't come knocking at his cave door unannounced.

That snuffling goes unnoticed at first, until Vanitas drifts closer to waking. Then, his wings ruffle slightly before his eyes crack open and stare at the smaller dragon again, as if willing him to stop. But when that proves to be futile, he shifts and reaches out a paw, batting at the smaller dragon's rump.

Stop that.]

[ Rude. Ven moves with the nudge but his response is just to curl up into a tighter little ball and coo, tail curling around his nose.

Right before he starts up again. ]

[There's a blissful moment or two of silence afterward in which Vanitas let's his eyes droop closed again...

Before the noise starts back up. He snorts, rumbling in his chest in a displeased sort of grumble before he reaches out and bumps the other again. It's harder this time, a pointed shove that will hopefully wake the smaller gold up.]

[ ~~know Kaz's pain with your snoring mr. mermaid 8||~~

The nudge this time is a success. Ven's bumped enough that it disturbs his happy little ball and has him hurrying for a moment to get his paws out from under him so he doesn't roll right over, but his response is just a sleepy little snort and chuff before he lifts his head and looks around sleepily. ]

[~~ssssssshhh that's not relevant!!~~]

You're too loud.

[That's his only response, before he turns more onto his side and rolls away from the other. Alright, so maybe he's looking for a more comfortable position to actually catch some sleep in.]

Loud...? [ He was just sleepily away happily you rude. Ven blinks sleepily a few more times before he opens his mouth in a wide yawn and rises up on his paws with an arch in his back. Streeeeeetch, toddle toddle toddle.

Huff. If you feel a brush against your side Vanitas, that may very well be because Ven's decided that he's going to curl up there now. ]

You're making noises.

[As soon as the other settles against him, Vanitas makes a slightly distressed sound and tries to inch away. But the nest is only so big, so he ends up settling only a few feet away, nostrils snorting in irritation as he glares at the the other and paws at him.]

And you can't rest here, it's mine!

But you're warm... The floor's cold. [ And he is a sleepy sleepy draggin okay. He's less worried about the nest itself and more with the heat Vanitas' body offers, so when he's pushed off the edge of the nest onto the ground he gives a tired bark and tries to crawl back up. ]

That's not my problem.

[As soon as the other tries to climb onto his nest, Vanitas makes another low growl and raises his spines, lips drawing back to show his teeth again.]

..... [ Ven chuffs unhappily but shrinks back down, sitting back onto his haunches and looking around for anything that might also serve to be comfortable. Mostly it's just stuff he shouldn't be touching anyway, so with a defeated little noise he pulls his paws away from the edge of the nest and just wanders around the edge of it towards Vanitas' tail end, away from his fangs and all that. Mostly to see if the other will tolerate him taking up residence there, on the floor next to him. ]

[Well, he doesn't have the same aggression. Vanitas just eyes the smaller dragon as he retreats, snorting softly as he curls up beside him. He should really chase him off, but again he's too tired to properly assert his dominance over the area and the gold isn't much of a threat.

So after a small stare-off, he lowers his head again and curls in on himself, closing his eyes in an attempt to catch more sleep.]

[ Which is basically the okay to STAY FOREVER as far as Ven's concerned. He coos just once, before curling up into a happy little bundle and tucking his head and limbs under himself to keep warm. And this time he won't snore at all c: ]

[Good, because he really needs the uninterrupted rest. After a good three or four hours after drifting off, Vanitas finally blinks awake and yawns, lifting to stretch himself. It's already dark outside the cave, but he hardly cares as he flexes his limbs and glances back to see if the smaller dragon's still asleep or not.]

[ Nope! In fact Ven actually isn't there at all, absent from the spot he'd chosen as his napping area. Vanitas is nice and alone in the cave fancy that :>c ]
