[Vanitas continues to just stare at him from the water's surface, blinking once as a few drops are splashed onto his head, but otherwise unmoving. At least at first.

Alright, if this little whelp wants to play, then he'll play. Suddenly his head snaps up again before his hind legs kick off from the river bed, forcing him forward in the water and creating a significant wave against his upper arms and chest that splashes the goldscale back.]

[ Back, and right over end so he winds up with a snout full of water when he manages to right himself and scramble his way to the surface, chuffing and snorting out a spray of mist as he gets back to rights.

RUDE. ]

What? I thought you wanted to play.

[And he makes a small charge again, rising up partially out of the water before he slams his front limbs down and creates and even larger wave with the force.]

You're playing too rough! [ Though it comes out as a squeak when he gets bowled over a second time. It takes a little longer for him to paw his way to the surface, but when he gets there he flaps quickly with his wings to "hop" out and make a pounce for Vanitas. ]

[He lets him pounce, only moving slightly back but not far enough out of the way to avoid it. But instead of shying off or trying to throw the other back, he just leans his head in and bites onto the base of the other's neck--not hard enough to hurt, but in a clear show of dominance before he retracts it and flaps his own wings back.]

I think you're just a wuss.

Ow-- [ No it doesn't hurt, not really. But he yaps it all the same as he curls up and rolls over once, until he's back on his feet again and can shake out his hide. ]

Am not! Playing's not just about winning y'know. [ Tail swish. Three of them, in quick and tell-tale fashion that reflects his little jump back towards the other again before he even makes it, wings tucked in carefully to his sides. He is going to climb your hide mister get over here ]

Nh! Yes, it is.

[Oh no you don't. Not without a struggle at least. Ven may be smaller and spry, but Vanitas isn't exactly slow unless he wants to be.

As soon as the other grabs on and starts to attempt to climb him, Vanitas immediately sinks back into the river's water and rolls.]

[ Barrel roll successful.

Or it would be if that's what Ven had been intending to make Vanitas do, but whatever. The action comes off as playful to him so even as they go tumbling over and he's forced to let go in order to paddle to the surface and right himself, Ven's snapping at the air and snuffling in excitement.

...Of course they're a little deeper out after that so he's carried a good number of yards downstream before his shorter legs are able to scrape the bottom, but he's clambering up onto the nearest boulder not a moment later and flapping his fins open and closed in excitement. ]

Is not!

[Despite the space between them once the other's carried downstream, Vanitas doesn't seem particularly bothered by it. In fact, he simply dives down into the river and moves his body in a serpentine fashion to swim closer and bridge the gap.

There's a reason why his kind are often found near swamps or water, and that's made obvious when he surfaces again and leaps up, grabbing with his front claws onto the very boulder the smaller gold is resting on.]

So what is it about, according to you?

[ Bap.

You just got boop'd on the muzzle with a teeny tiny paw mister badass black dragon. ]

[The touch against his muzzle makes him recoil a bit, lips drawing away from his teeth--

Before his eyes squeeze shut and he sneezes once, immediately recovering with a glare and a small hiss.]

You're ridiculous.

Hehe! Yup. [ His eyes are large and bright again even with the hiss and this time Ven doesn't even bother trying not to chirp at the blackscale; he just flattens against the rock, tail swishing and fins bent back as he lifts a paw sloooooowwwwwly and bats at the air. ]

[Then he probably won't see Vanitas' next move coming.

He narrows in on that paw for a second, as he shifts, subtly gathering his hind legs in springing position. Enough is enough, and if he wants to play? Fine, he'll play.

By suddenly pouncing forward through the water, front paws reaching out to grasp the other around his shoulders and flip him over into a pin.]

[ Oh my god rude, that's so unfair. Ven's bowled clean over by the tackle without much more than a startled yap. He's pinned practically right away but that won't stop him from wiggling and kicking his hind legs up against the larger dragon. Pretty much flabbergasted and delighted at the same time since his snaps at the other's forepaws are really just playful nips. ]

[The only reason he's not tearing into the other is because he's so much smaller and therefore not a threat in his mind. Vanitas does growl in response, but it's less intimidating and more haughty, as if he's announcing his victory.

A few of the kicks get in, but his scales are thick enough to withstand some punishment. And instead of letting his opponent up, he brings his head forward and nips back at the other's neck and underbelly.]

[ "Opponent." You're taking this way too seriously Vanitas BT Even when the bites come Ven just flinches and squirms as he lets out several flightly chirrups. He's obviously cowed but he still manages to get his front paws up so he can try and bat at the other's maw, or at least paddle against it the next time he comes in.

omg you butt stop the bellynips, that's not for you. ]

[A paw catches him against the snout, and he flinches back, before going in for another couple of nips. After that though, he does back off some, or at least allows the other dragon to wiggle partly free.]

Don't you know if you play with fire you'll get burned?

[ Good, that's more in the spirit. Ven's fins flare up again and his whole spine wriggles against the rock, tail curling and then tapping several times into the water. He hasn't had anyone to wrestle around with in a long time. Even if he is just getting pinned and sloshed around in the water. ]

You're not even a fire. [ Pawpawpaw. He's just slowly batting at air, but if he could reach no doubt he'd be bapping Vanitas on the snout some more. ] Besides, we like fire!

It's an expression. [His eyes track that paw with another snort, before he simply turns, swinging his back half around to bop him with his long tail.]

Your expressions need work. [ Whap. Ven yaps back predictably when that tail catches him, but it only takes a second for Ven to recover quickly and immediately try to catch it between his paws, clapping them together in the air and chuffing in excitement. ]

I think they're fine.

[Ven manages to catch it for a second or two, before the blackscale's powerful muscles yank it back out of his grasp. He spreads his wings and flaps them several times, causing the water at his sides to ripple and give as he lifts himself up into the air--

Only to turn and dive back at the smaller dragon in another tumble.]

[ Ven is delighted. Of course he still makes a panicked little yelp as he's bowled clean over and rolled--he's really much too small to beat Vanitas in any kind of contest in strength or weigh--but as soon as he can he's going to try and get his paws under him and scramble against the riverbed to keep his head above the water and get them closer to the edge of the water.

Easier to tumble and roll around there without getting his nose full of water like it is now, what with all his excited barking and flopping. Even when trying to get to freedom he's still snapping at the air anytime Vanitas' face gets close to his. ]

[Vanitas pursues him, following him into the shallows and attempting to block his 'escape' to the shore. The snaps earn a few hisses and nips back, before he bumps the smaller dragon with his shoulder and lashes his tail.

It's been a long time since he's played like this. And despite his initial reluctance, it feels good to let loose and he finds himself enjoying it more than he really should.]

[ FUCK YEAH WINNER. Ven knew the face-wiggles would work.

Escape route is blocked though! Even if he doesn't look particularly alarmed and sounds more thrilled than anything as he's knocked over. Ven just rolls with it (literally) and hops back onto his feet, bounding back over to the blackscale's side to bounce at bat at him, swiping air but with an entirely playful intent. There's no way he's rolling Vanitas anywhere even if he pounces on him; he can take a limb, maybe two.

Because he is fierce. ]

[Yes.

So fierce.

The bigger dragon has no problem batting him back, charging and dodging in a back and forth display until he's actually starting to get worn out.]
