[Ven. Please. The innocence?]

[And just a reminder, the things in his territory are used to him hunting them. So, you got your work cut out for you, ferocious thing.]

[ HE WILL DO IT OKAY. I mean it's not like he probably scared off most of the game he could have hunted while he was crashing around earlier and all that 6u9 but he's going to bark at Riku again before turning tail and quickly bounding for the forest to sniff the air. ]

[Yes, there was that to think of too. But he said "anything" so at least that wasn't picky. Though, he's hoping the aspect of "meat" made it into Ven's mind. He'll be a little put out of there's a hunk of fungus waiting for him.

While the other's out, he'll do his own hunting. Which involves getting into position on the beach and waiting for fish to come around. Till they're swimming within the cove of his wings. Then it's a shove forward, another wave, and four fish flopping on the beach. Definitely not the quickest way for a main dinner, but whatever works.

If he's that hungry, he'll go take a plunge in the lagoon again or do his own hunting.]

[ Hey. Some fungi are totally edible alright?? Riku should be proud if Ven comes back with mushrooms or something.

...Not that he will, since the sort he's used to eating grows much, much higher than the altitude of Riku's territory. There aren't any mountain goats either which is troublesome, but there's plenty of small game in the form of birds and squirrels. It's just actually sneaking up on them which is hard. For him. He's still clumsy and over-eager; traits which weren't a huge detriment before, because goldscales were suited best for climbing, perching, and short bursts of aerial speed and a fumble here or there didn't mean no goat. It just mean grab mountain and go go go.

Underbrush isn't as forgiving. ]

[Ugh. No. Prepare to have a wry expression at that one. Pulling fungi off a tree is not hunting either.

What's a little sad is if he sit still enough and waits, he can ultimately hear him, rambling around in the underbrush. Silence--Ven's trying to sneak on something. Crash, rush, snap--Ven's tripping through the underbrush and the birds are flying away.

The silverscale walks from the water, giving himself only a slight shake to clear water from his scales. And then it's back on the obsidian boulder again, tucking his back legs under him and his front legs crossed on the black stone.]

[ Yes. It's pitiful and it's probably some of the worst forest-based hunting ever, but Ven is trying and as often as he comes up with absolutely nothing he also winds up having a bit of fun, chasing rabbits down their holes or squirrels into trees.

probably the only thing that doesn't bolt away from him is a bear, but a few grumpy chuffs from that and Ven's deciding he probably doesn't need to chance it or anything. He gives it space and the bear gives him space.

But that still means he's going to come back empty-handed with his pride more than a little wounded, half an hour later. Well outside his time-limit. ]

[The worst. He's already gathered just what kind of wreck his territory is going to be in after Ven gets through with it. (Okay, so he wasn't that bad.) Still, by the time the other returns, Riku is settling on the stone once again, wings moving to cover his sides.

Because there's something he knows that Ven doesn't. And that's upon twenty minutes passing and still no show, he'd given the goldscale five more minutes before taking flight. Mostly to see what sort of trouble was keeping him. Scouring through the skies until he locates him. Then merely checks on him every few minutes. High enough the whelp wouldn't notice. ~~Couldn't have him thinking he cared or something.~~

Only when Ven turned back towards the lagoon had he departed and returned to the clearing ahead of him. Which brought them to now. Aqua eyes locked onto the goldscale.]

And?

[ Ven practically flops onto his belly in a slump, chin sliding across the ground with a depressed little croon of defeat. That should be plenty answer enough, really. HE'S DISAPPOINTED IN EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW. ]

I didn't get anything.

[Why are you flumping down on the beach like it's your home? The familial action earns probably one of the most irritable eyerolls ever seen on a dragon (which is a good thing that Ven's not looking at him for the moment).

Yes, it's answer enough and he knew already you didn't get anything, whelp. Great. Now it's almost sunset and he knows Ven'll never get out of his territory by nightfall. Especially hungry.]

You're such a whelp. There's food to your left. [Five good-sized fish lay submerged in a small "tidal pool" on the shore. ~~This doesn't mean anything, whelp.~~]

[ Ven doesn't bother to hide his surprise with the way his head snaps up suddenly, earstalks perked and pupils dilated. Clearly excited, and clearly itching to just rush over and gorg himself. Only the fact that Riku is there and looking at him stops the small goldscale, anxious whimpers and whines of delight escaping him. ]

Can I really??

[Ugh. He drops his head down to his front paws again, deliberately facing away from him so the other wouldn't see the exasperated expression on his face. Really shouldn't be doing this... Ven hadn't deserved any kind of coddling from him, and yet he just got him dinner after the goldscale failed to earn it twice.]

Just eat.

[For all he knows now, the goldscale is going to spend the night here. Whatever. Tomorrow, there wouldn't be any of this "nice guy" stuff unless the smaller drake grew up a little.]

Thank you! Thank you thank you! [ It's practically a chirped chorus until he manages to tear his way to the tiny pool and dig right in, maw snapping around the first morsel with hasty abandon as his teeth tear and sink into flesh almost immediately. He barely even chews the thing, just rips it into smaller pieces before swallowing them whole and going for the next. ]

[They have a unique taste, even more so if Ven's never had fish before (which Riku doubts, since he didn't even know fish lived in water before splashing down here). He curls his tail around the base of the stone and simply listens to hungry being sated.

This wasn't like him, but something about the little gold was annoyingly innocent. Enough that he wasn't going to be so huge a butt as to kick him out into the wilds of the night hungry. He had guts at least... foolish guts, but guts nonetheless.]

[ When he slows down enough to actually taste it he'll notice, but the first few fish are torn and gone before he has much of a chance. After that he'll slow a little, but food is food and after wearing himself out more than once, he's happy just to be able to put something in his stomach again. It's enough to have him practically crooning as he comes to the last fish, licking at it and holding it to the ground between his paws as he settles down on his belly again.

Totally, hopelessly relaxed and comfortable in the territory of an older male dragon. Yep. ]

[Said older male dragon is still trying to nose up enough nerve to kick the smaller, annoying gold out of his territory... but unfortunately, the gold's managed to thorn himself into his side for the night. Tsk. Riku should have just tossed his tail out the moment he couldn't give a good excuse for being here.

Once the feeding time noises settled, he lifts his head n his neck and eyes the smaller drake once again. For a few moments, he'll leave him to just settle and savor. But when those moments are over...]

You owe me.

I promise I'll find the black rocks for you...! I'll keep trying tomorrow! [ At least as far as the tiny goldscale is concerned, he still owes Riku that much at least. ]

[Hn. At least he's still got that in mind.]

We'll see about that. [The larger drake may want more than obsidian after all he's done for you, tiny. His head lifts and eyes focus on the darkening sky.] Moonrise...

Ven lifts his head curiously when the other speaks, licking the final bits of fish from his maw and crooning happily. ]

You can see the moon from down here...?

[Shhh...

He lowers his head to peer at the other drake. True, the mass of clouds typically obscured the moon as well as the higher mountains, but there were times...]

Sometimes. When it's towards the horizon before it reaches the clouds.

...Up on the mountains, we'd get to see it all night long. It looked so big and bright I thought it was another sun at first.

[The silverscale pushes himself up from the stone once again and steps down onto the shore, small pebbles and sand shifting under his weight. It'd be completely dark soon.]
