[His wings shift back against his body into a more natural pose, since this kid is clearly not a threat at all. His spines also lower a bit, though they aren't completely flattened back against his scales.]

Haven't you seen water before?

Not like this before! Only in the pools in our den. [ And as Vanitas tucks his wings in Ven lifts his head a little further, already wriggling a touch restlessly on the ground because he wants to go and inspect all the sparkling water again please. You can have it back when he's done??

He's already licking his maw a little and chewing at the air as he cranes his neck to one side. ]

[So he really is a whelp. As if there'd been any doubt.

Not that he was much different, but black dragons tended to leave the nest sooner. Or rather, their broodmothers weren't the most attentive parents, so when they were strong enough to fly they were on their own. And he'd come a long way in a short amount of time, riding the higher currents of air so he didn't have to expend as much energy, to finally settle in this patch of the landscape.

He wasn't the only dragon about by any means, and was far from the largest. But he was bigger than this gold, and that's all that really mattered. Yellow eyes narrow again at the childish display, before he chuffs and reaches out to swat at his head. Not hard or with his claws forward, but reprimanding.]

Well you still can't have it.

[ And predictably Ventus responds as a greenhorn would, yapping as he shirks his head back and hunkers back down, at least for a moment. His wings and haunches wiggle restlessly. ]

I don't want to keep it, I just want to see it! Come on... [ He lashes his tail again, the fins on his cheeks wiggling solicitously; the sort of thing one whelp did to try and coax another into play. Come ooooon grumpy! ]

[At the obviously playful display, the dark reptile just rolls his eyes and lowers his back legs into a sit, tip of his tail flicking in agitation while the rest of it curls flat to one side. He was beyond games, though perhaps there was a way to get something out of this.]

Fine. Go knock yourself out.

[But he holds up one of his front paws, turning it upwards.] On one condition. You've gotta bring me something to eat.

Catch something? [ Ven's surprised at the demand. That's like practically giving him permission to hunt in Vanitas' territory, and even he knows that's not usually something that happens. It sounds weird to even think of it in that context.

He lifts his head from the ground and rises up on his own paws, snuffling a little in confusion. ]

[Honestly he's just being lazy. He has no problem catching his own food, but why waste the energy when he can get this guy to do it for him? And maybe he'll get fed up being bossed around and leave.]

Well I don't eat plants. [So yes, something meaty would be good.]

Huh...okay. I'll catch something! [ If it's got him free reign to return to the river he's all for trying to hone what meagre hunting skills he has. Catching goats that scaled the mountain had always been fun.

But first? River. With permission given Ven's going to quickly bound his way over (yes, bound) and come to a stop at the river's edge. The closer he gets to the water the less it sparkles which is a bit of a disappointment? But he's sure to bat at it a few times with a paw as he settles on his haunches and croons at it. Come back diamonds :c ]

[Yup, definitely an idiot.

Vanitas watches him for a moment or two, before he raises his head and squints up into the sunlight. Gh, he hated being out of the shade because his scales heated up so quickly.

One of his wings unfurls again, and he quietly drapes it across the top of his head, neck and shoulders... creating a kind of leathery umbrella. There, that was slightly better. He could just go back into the trees, but he wanted to keep an eye on his 'visitor' and make sure he wasn't ruining anything.]

[ Paranoid cotch 8T Ven's having no trouble at all keeping himself amused at the water's edge. He progresses quickly from batting at the water to striking it a little, hovering closer and chuffing when he sees his own reflection in it.

...It might take a minute or so for him to catch onto the fact that there isn't in fact another dragon looking back up at him. He actually squeaks at his mirrored image and darts to and from the water several times in playful lunges to coax it out of the water, but when that fails he pounces on the spot and basically just gets water all over himself.

And he might feel a little foolish. But he gets over it fast and snaps at the water as it runs by him instead, walking and drinking at the same time until he's about halfway through it. It may not be diamonds but Ven officially approves. He is going to get his own river one day allllll for himself, yup. ]

Vanitas has to crane his head a bit so his eyes can follow the other as he moves further into the river, vision hindered by a few chunks of granite that had long been carried down from the mountains and settled into the river bank. His wing fans over himself subtly, creating a soft breeze that will hopefully keep the heat at bay.

But it's a futile struggle, and soon the water is looking more and more tempting to himself as well. Though he wouldn't be as stupid about cavorting into it as Ven.

Instead, he slinks forward and enters the shallows with only a few small splashes despite his size, moving until the water reaches most of the way up his limbs. From there, he lowers himself into a crouch, submerging his belly and dipping his neck so that just the top of his wings, the ridge of his spine along his back and his head from the top jaw up are visible from the surface.]

Especially your personal space, because there's no way Ven's going to be able to keep his distance from the blackscale when he notices that the older's joined him. It takes a little bit, but he does okay. Probably stupidly easy to tell when too, because all his whelpish splashing and toddling around comes to a stop.

Mostly.

He's half-swimming half crawling his way downstream to the other with an eager chirp and wiggle of his face-wings, because clearly Vanitas has come to join him and play a little now that he's sure Ven isn't up to no good. ]

Hey!

[When he's approached, the black's head sinks lower in the water, leaving just his nostrils, eyes and the top of his head visible much like a crocodile's. But hiding from this little brat isn't practical--so after a few seconds his head pops back out of the surface, rivulettes of water dripping from his snout and rougher, longer scales under his chin.

He fixes Ven with another unblinking stare, before he answers.]

Shouldn't you be hunting?

I can hunt later. [ Wiggle. ] Are you just gonna stay like that all day?? [ Because you could be playing with him instead. ]

That was the plan.

[His own tail rises and lashes once at the water, in another agitated little movement.]

[ Too bad Ven's not looking at the water JUST YOUR GRUMPY FACE C8 And he braces himself a little deeper on the riverbed with this keen sort of glint to his eyes, wings lifting and flapping at the water a little. ]

That's boring! Y'wanna play instead?

No.

[And with that, he lowers his head into the water again, sinking so that he's almost fully submerged.]

[ YOU ARE THE BIGGEST POOP ]

...!

[ Not even a lick of consideration on his end. That is the fastest playtime rejection he's ever gotten and Ven can't help the way he practically deflates.

For like half a second anyway, then he's going to try for it anyway and bounds a little closer in the water, trying to swat at him through it. Come onnnnnn you booger play with hiiiim it won't be the end of the world. ]

[Vanitas continues to just stare at him from the water's surface, blinking once as a few drops are splashed onto his head, but otherwise unmoving. At least at first.

Alright, if this little whelp wants to play, then he'll play. Suddenly his head snaps up again before his hind legs kick off from the river bed, forcing him forward in the water and creating a significant wave against his upper arms and chest that splashes the goldscale back.]

[ Back, and right over end so he winds up with a snout full of water when he manages to right himself and scramble his way to the surface, chuffing and snorting out a spray of mist as he gets back to rights.

RUDE. ]

What? I thought you wanted to play.

[And he makes a small charge again, rising up partially out of the water before he slams his front limbs down and creates and even larger wave with the force.]

You're playing too rough! [ Though it comes out as a squeak when he gets bowled over a second time. It takes a little longer for him to paw his way to the surface, but when he gets there he flaps quickly with his wings to "hop" out and make a pounce for Vanitas. ]

[He lets him pounce, only moving slightly back but not far enough out of the way to avoid it. But instead of shying off or trying to throw the other back, he just leans his head in and bites onto the base of the other's neck--not hard enough to hurt, but in a clear show of dominance before he retracts it and flaps his own wings back.]

I think you're just a wuss.

Ow-- [ No it doesn't hurt, not really. But he yaps it all the same as he curls up and rolls over once, until he's back on his feet again and can shake out his hide. ]

Am not! Playing's not just about winning y'know. [ Tail swish. Three of them, in quick and tell-tale fashion that reflects his little jump back towards the other again before he even makes it, wings tucked in carefully to his sides. He is going to climb your hide mister get over here ]

Nh! Yes, it is.

[Oh no you don't. Not without a struggle at least. Ven may be smaller and spry, but Vanitas isn't exactly slow unless he wants to be.

As soon as the other grabs on and starts to attempt to climb him, Vanitas immediately sinks back into the river's water and rolls.]
